How does the Akita SafeWeb software work?
  • This software was built to work only for Internet Explorer. If your end users attempt to open a different web browser it will automatically close it so they can not view web pages you have not given them permission to view.
  • When a user pulls up a web page in Internet Explorer, the software checks with the server computer to see if the domain name accessed is ok to view.
  • If the domain name checks out to be bad, the client computer sends a screen shot of the users desktop to the server for the monitor to view any inappropriate activity. The software then starts the computers screen saver, and closes any open Internet Explorer windows.
  • If the server does not know if the domain is good or bad, the client machine does a strategic word check of the document. If the word check is bad it sends a screen shot to the server machine, starts the screen saver on the client and closes any open Internet Explorer windows.

How do I tell Akita SafeWeb that a domain name is GOOD?
Sometimes if a web document one of your end users is viewing contains a combination of keywords that pass the allowed threshold the SafeWeb software will be fooled into thinking it is a bad site. If the SafeWeb software makes this type of mistake the following procedure will allow you to tell SafeWeb the domain is good.
  • From the Monitor page click the Admin button and re-verify your login.
  • On the Admin page click the Change status of a Domain Name button
  • Type the first 3 letters of the Domain name in question and click the Get List button.
  • Double click the Domain Name in question from the list box.
  • Once the Domain Name appears in the text box at the bottom, you can click the Un-Block URL button.
    ------------------------------- O R -------------------------------------------------
  • If and end user has just visited the Domain in question you can double click on the that clients computer icon found on the Monitor Page.
  • Here you will see that clients computer history, along side the image of that clients last recorded image. Double click the Domain Name in the list box you want to modify.
  • When the Domain name you wish to change shows up in the text box, simply click the Un-Block Domain button.

How do I tell Akita SafeWeb that a domain name is BAD?
With all software that protects users from visiting unwanted websites, there are always a few that slip past the system. That is the reason we created SafeWeb. Unlike other web protection software, every time one of our members marks a website as bad all of our other members are automatically updated with the new information. So if you notice a client on a web page they are not supposed to be on simply follow the steps listed above in how do you make a domain name GOOD. Instead of clicking the Un-BLOCK button click the BLOCK button to tell SafeWeb that the domain name should not be allowed. This way instead of having each of our members having to enter millions of unwanted domains, each of us participate when we find one that is not wanted.
Notice: Each domain that is marked as BAD is checked by our staff before it is automatically downloaded to the rest of our clients. This is to prevent accidents where someone may mark a site like Google or W2R.COM as BAD. We only filter out pornographic web sites. You have the option however to make any domain name bad that you wish. Non-pornographic sites however will not be distributed to our other members.

    Installation Help:
This software deals with networking, and can be a challenge to set up. You should contact your system administrator to set up the software. Your computer administrator should also call us and let us walk you through the setup process.
If you wish to attempt the installation without phone assistance we have listed the steps to install below.
  • Sign up and purchase an account with SafeWeb
  • Once your account is paid for you can click the software download link to obtain the setup software.
  • When finished downloading Double click the AkitaSetup.exe file and click the button labeled Install.
  • If you receive an Error while installing, your computer most likely does not have the necessary DLL files required for it to run pre-installed. To correct this you can download the Windows Patch for installer program file and run it. This file will install the Microsoft DLL files necessary to run your SafeWeb installer program.
  • After the installation of the SafeWeb software is complete, the SafeWeb application will start.
  • In your system tray, near the computers clock on the bottom right of your screen you should see our Akita Icon. Right click on this Icon and click Log In. During your initial setup your user name is "Admin" and your password is "Admin" each without the " quotation marks.
  • You should now be on the Monitor page, with 100 computer icons. Each computer icon represents one of your client computers that will use the SafeWeb software. Now click on the Admin button on the top of this screen and re-enter your login information. Again your user name will be "Admin" and your password will be "Admin" without the quotation marks.
  • Now you should be looking at the Administration page. Enter the requested information.
Server IP: This will be the IP address of your server computer. e.g.: 192.168.1.100 If you are setting up the server application now you can click the "Show Local IP" button and see what the address to your server is.
Lowest Port This is the number of the lowest computer port you want your server to listen on. Your server will listen on the lowest port, and an additional 100 ports numerically. The client will attempt to connect on port number 101 + the number you set for your lowest port. The numbers you set for Server IP and Lowest Port should be the same on all computers you run the SafeWeb software on.
Web Proxy: If you connect to the internet through a web proxy enter it here. If you do not, or are not sure, leave this field empty.
Threshold for Activation: When the SafeWeb software handles its word check on a web document it checks to see if the threat level is greater than the Threshold number. If you raise the number SafeWeb will find fewer sites to be BAD, if you lower the number SafeWeb will find more sites to be bad.
Connection String: You can find your connection string by logging in to your Internet SafeWeb account. You can copy and paste this long string of letters and numbers directly into the Connection String text field.
Start Automatically: This will start your SafeWeb software automatically when your users start the computer.
Run as Server | Run as Client: Choose weather the system you are setting up now is going to be the server, or one of the 100 client machines.
Finish: Click the Save Startup Options button, and restart the SafeWeb software.
Note: Once you re-start your SafeWeb software, if everything was done correctly, your new user name and password will be the same as the username and password you have set up on your Internet SafeWeb account.
